Uber-SWAP returns....Saturday April 29th, 11am to 2pm!
This is the 22nd edition of our popular Women's Clothing Exchange & it'll be held at: Eastminster United Church (Danforth, near Chester station). Spring Uber-SWAP will help support the church's Accessibility Fund and leftover items will be donated to the Yonge St. Mission & other local agencies serving women & newcomers.
Edit your closets & trade your best *Spring* appropriate cast-offs with other stylish scavengers in the East-End at our eco-lovely event. Passionate re: thrifting, vintage-hunting & the planet? Then, definitely plan to attend…
==> We also have a *Maker Section* of craft/art supplies (incl. Fabric, Beads, Yarn, Paints, etc.)
Uber-SWAP is a lot like visiting your favourite thrift store during a 50% off sale, but it's an even more frugal way to update your wardrobe & you're more likely to find good quality fashion nuggets in the mix. Expect mild chaos, but the crowd is generally more enthusiastic than aggressive.
We have helped revamp many wardrobes & donated over $12K & truckloads of garments to various Toronto charities (literally hundreds of garbage bags crammed with clothing), since 2009. Thanx for helping us redirect clothing from landfill & allowing us to supporting deserving local non-profits by attending Uber-SWAP.
Expect a tempting stash of gently used, vintage & even some *new* women's clothing (some contributed by local indie designers), bags, accessories & footwear. Basics to fashions gems will be found in the mix + Crafty/Art Supplies too!
SIZING: Mainly XS to XL, though we do have some plus-size & maternity items in the mix.
— This event is organized by Nathalie-Roze & Co.
== Tickets are $10 each, whether in advance OR day-of ==
1. Saturday April 22nd, 11:30am to 1:30pm at Eastminster (same venue as the event) — basement/Hurndale Room
2. Monday April 24th, 5-7pm (same as above)
Same-Day Drop Offs
If coming ahead doesn't work for you, same-day drops start at 10:30am. Please *don't arrive early*, as we have a tiny window for set-up. There's typically a line-up & a bit of a wait day-of. By taking advantage of our Advance Drop-Offs, you already have a ticket & can go right in & swap whenever you arrive on Saturday.
NOTE: The church is on the North-West corner of Danforth & Jackman — beside Timothy's, if you'd like to sip a hot drink while you're waiting, but no drinks are permitted inside the event.
BE IN THE LOOP
Please 'Like' the Nathalie-Roze & Co. Facebook page or follow us on Twitter (@NRandCo) & or Instagram (@nathalieroze) for the latest info, updates & a chance to win * FREE* tickets & extra bags to fill over the two weeks before Spring Uber-SWAP.
— Save-the-date & please help spread the word re: this eco-fab & frugal event! The more, the merrier — more people at Uber-SWAP = more cool stuff for you to choose from & more donations for the non-profits we support.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
Your stash of in-season (Spring appropriate), decent quality & clean clothing & accessories. We are also accepting craft supplies (eg. fabric, beads, yarn, patterns, DIY books, etc.).
--> MINIMUM: 12 (1 dozen) *approved* items per person to participate, though most people bring 15-20 items each & some bring far more.
TIP: Please aim to bring in 15+ pieces, as we don't accept all items presented. The gentle curation is a key part of why people keep coming back to Uber-SWAP & it also pleases our charity partners (we don't donate damaged/dirty/worn out items). This is our 22nd Uber-SWAP, and — after various tweaks & experiments — we find that this system works best for everyone. Please read through the guidelines, if you are new to our events. Thanx.
We now provide identical bags for all attendees to fill, in an effort to maintain fairness.
If you contribute the minimum, you get a Regular bag — bring in stellar quality, particularly unique Vintage pieces or a high-volume of good quality approved items & you'll receive two bags to fill — this is up to the full discretion of our team.
Participants will have a chance to win a second bag via social media.
--> We'll give away extra bags via Twitter/FB & Instagram contests in the run-up to the event & also during Uber-SWAP.
==> Please use our event hashtag: #UberSWAP, if you're tweeting/posting about the event before/during/after.
*** WE ARE NO LONGER USING THE T-SHIRT BAGS ***
WHAT SHOULD YOU CONTRIBUTE?
Please BRING only Women's *Spring-appropriate* clothing & accessories in good condition (no holes, rips or stains):
~ Light Sweaters ~ Dresses ~ Jackets ~ Spring Coats
~ Skirts ~ Pants & Jeans ~ Tops
~ Shoes & Boots (in good condition)
~ Silkscreened/Unusual T-Shirts (no yellow armpits, please)
~ Bags & Belts ~ Hats & Scarves ~ Jewellery
--> NOTE: We are not accepting these items this time:
** leggings, tanks, white tees, shorts, bathing suits & or gym gear (unless it's brand new, ideally with tags) **
FYI, small accessories & jewellery are welcome, but do NOT count as one of your minimum 12 items (shoes & purses do).
The focus is on Women's Fashion items vs. Sporty gear
Please DO *NOT* BRING:
~ Worn out Leggings, Yoga Pants or sad White T-shirts
~ Socks or Underwear (unless brand new)
~ Men's or Kids/Baby Clothing, Toys, Books, Small Appliances, etc. (yes, this has happened!?)
~ Worn out/dirty/smelly sneakers or sandals
~ Home Decor Items or random stuff you want to unload
~ Anything Dirty, Damaged or Off-Season (eg. Bikinis, flip-flops, items with rips or broken zippers, etc.)
Please LIMIT the 'Fast-Fashion' in your stash:
--> You don't have to bring super-fancy items to Uber-SWAP, but we do ask attendees to please mainly contribute decent quality pieces & only bring a few H&M, Joe Fresh & Ardene type (lower-quality) pieces. Uber-SWAP is a gently curated clothing exchange that aims to offer attendees decent quality items that'll last more than a single season. Please don't assume we'll take anything (we really don't).
Leftover Uber-SWAP loot goes to local non-profits, including The Yonge St. Mission & local shelters as well as East-End agencies serving women in transition & newcomers.
We also donate tickets to shelters & employment centres — if you work with an organization who might want a few, please message us.
NOTE: Dogs are not allowed in the church or at our events, unless they are legitimate service dogs.
