Join us for the very last talk of our Backyard Biodiversity Summer Speaker Series here at the High Park Nature Centre!
Co- host of The Discovery Channel's Daily Planet, Dr. Dan Riskin, will be here to teach us all about...Bat Superpowers!
Working as a biologist, Dan has spent more than 20 years exploring the biomechanics of bats, but is also a television personality, author, and podcaster. Dan has appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, The Dr. Oz Show, and more. His first book, Mother Nature is Trying to Kill You was a Canadian bestseller, and his weekly podcast, Recent Paper Decent Puzzle is available now.
In this talk, Dan will explore the incredible biomechanical abilities bats possess — they fly, flip, fall, land, walk, jump, avoid obstacles, and more. Using images, videos, sounds, and stories from his own research experience, Dan will show us what makes bats almost supernatural athletes.
After the talk, Dan will lead an Urban Bat Walk at 8:15pm to hear passing bats with a handheld bat monitor and continue the conversation.
This event is drop-in & suited to an adult and youth ages 8+ audience. Suggested donation is $5.
