After almost a decade, SandraLaya Ruch is retiring as the National Coordinator of Canadian Voice of Women for Peace. This evening will be a celebration of those years and an opportunity to establish a VOW Peace Education fund.
This fund will help young women attend conferences, peace camps, training sessions and other learning opportunities. that relate to VOWs commitment to a world without war. It is SandraLaya’s wish that we can benefit from the experienced women activists sharing their vast knowledge and experience with our leaders of tomorrow.
At 6pm we will gather at the Dundas Roncesvalles Peace Garden where Abby Bushby will give us a tour of its purposes, architectural features, history, events, collaborative partnerships, and more.
The Garden features Toronto's first joint arts project between a local community and the treaty-holders to the land, the «Peace Path» of 24 engraved paver designs. And, Toronto's first Indigenous StreetArt on a street utility box is placed there, as part of the Garden.Abby will talk about a reconciliation project — the planting of a Three Sisters mound of corn, beans, squash this summer.
