We’re grateful to our fellows in weird, the Tranzac, for hosting Saturday night at the festival. We’re equally grateful to all-time Toronto local heroes LAL for turning this evening into a multi-generation curatorial effort.

LAL should need no introduction to Torontonians. For almost 20 years, Rosina Kazi and Nic Murray have been renowned for their catalogue of soulful electronics focusing on the experiences of queer BIPOC Torontonians. In particular, their Unit 2 space has welcomed young creatives for years, playing a vital role in this city’s musical ecosystem. Their first curatorial decision was to split the task with up and coming collective Babely Shades: activists of colour and marginalized genders who use arts, punk, and workshops to decolonize local scenes in Ottawa, Montreal, & Toronto…

Expect a little bit of the Unit 2 vibe as everything from progressive rock to soulquarian rapping to extreme shadow puppetry gets in on the mix.

AVRHA is the collaboration of alaska B and Brendan Swanson (YAMANTAKA / SONIC TITAN). Hypnotic drums and percussion meld with dynamic keys in a bittersweet nightmare of new age heavy prog.

Teoni (aka Aqua) and Aminata (aka Blak Matilda) have collectively created the entity that is bizZarh. Raised in the west end of Toronto, they have been performing at festivals and in clubs since their teens. They flow together in harmony to create a balance in their fiery yet soothing energies.

Drawing With Knives Shadow Puppetry is a tkaronto/Toronto-based queer/2spirit shadow puppetry group. Working with paper cutouts, large-scale shadow projections, and music, Drawing With Knives explores themes like death, birth, and decolonialism.

Increasingly acclaimed visual artist Riya Jama describes herself as a multidisciplinary Somali-Canadian artist based out of Toronto with a history rich with trials and tribulations that provided her with an in depth personal knowledge of tackling current issues to the best of her artistic ability.

Join us in the Tiki Room at 6PM for a discussion hosted by Hana Jama of Babely Shades focusing on how the evening’s artists portray resistance through their art and expressing their identities. Cost for entry to panel: FREE.
