SONGWRITERS IN THE ROUND XX
Hosted by Gillian Nicola
Featuring: Pat Maloney, Amanda Lynn Stubley, & Darcy Windover
WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 28TH, 2018 @ 8PM
The Painted Lady (218 OSSINGTON AVE., TORONTO)
Never been to an In The Round? These concerts focus on the stories behind the music, and the songs themselves. The music is stripped back to allow listeners to really experience the songs at the most authentic level. What it also means is that we won't be having 'sets' per se — all four songwriters will be on stage together the whole time!
Gillian Nicola (Host)
The first thing that strikes listeners about Hamilton’s Gillian Nicola is the strength of her vocals. This rising singer/songwriter calls on influences of folk, rock and alt-country to bring a sound both unique to her and that honours her diverse taste.
Pat Maloney is a Canadian songwriter, a storyteller, and a serious whistler. He’s a concerned citizen, with a busted acoustic guitar and a fake bass drum. He’s a too-tall, Ottawa ex-pat, singing songs as meaningful as he can muster, with a healthy, self-defaming sense of humor.
Amanda Lynn Stubley
Amanda Lynn Stubley plays guitar, banjo and autoharp and loves duet singing and yodeling. Holding a graduate degree in Folklore, Stubley combines early country and folk material, as well as writes her own songs. Her 2017 EP “Gem” charted on multiple Canadian campus radio stations. For the past 8 years, Amanda Lynn has hosted For The Folk, on 94.9 CHRW.
Singer/songwriter Darcy Windover is a GTA-based artist in the Canadian music-scene, regularly performing in venues across the country. His style is most often attributed to roots-rock Americana, with a range that covers multiple disciplines. His songs charge along like a freight train, while the ballads are heartfelt and anthemic. The grit and hope of Dylan, the rhythms of Neil Young, the melodic sensibility of Ryan Adams are honoured in Windover’s songwriting and playing style.
