Indie88's Band and a Movie will is now happening once a month all year long! We're inviting Torontonians and our favorite bands to The Royal Cinema for intimate nights of live music and film.
On Tuesday, March 6th we're bringing you a special acoustic set from Weaves and screening their fav flick, Heathers!
Bring a pal, chow down on some popcorn, sip some Grolsch bevs and join us for this special one-time only event.
19+ and FREE to attend, subject to capacity.
Tickets handed out at 5:30PM. Doors at 7:30PM. Event to begin promptly at 8:00PM. One ticket per person.
About the band:
Weaves is a Canadian indie pop band from Toronto, Ontario, consisting of vocalist Jasmyn Burke, guitarist Morgan Waters, drummer Spencer Cole and bassist Zach Bines.
The band was formed in 2012 by Burke and Waters, who first met each other in a bar and began recording demo songs based on files of song ideas Burke recorded on her iPhone.In 2013, Bines and Cole joined the band shortly before recording commenced on their debut EP. They released the self-titled debut EP in 2014, and followed up with a self-titled full-length album in 2016.
The 2016 album was shortlisted for both the Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year and the 2017 Polaris Music Prize in 2017, as well as garnering a SOCAN Songwriting Prize nomination for the song «Sh*thole».
The band's second full-length album, Wide Open, was released on October 6, 2017.
About the flick:
Veronica (Winona Ryder) is part of the most popular clique at her high school, but she disapproves of the other girls' cruel behavior. When Veronica and her new boyfriend, J.D. (Christian Slater), confront clique leader Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) and accidentally poison her, they make it appear a suicide. Soon Veronica realizes that J.D. is intentionally killing students he does not like. She races to stop J.D. while also clashing with the clique's new leader, Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty).
