Please join us for a public artist talk by Sandra Brewster in conversation with Richard Fung.

This public artist talk is presented in conjunction with group exhibition Common Cause: before and beyond the global, guest curated by Denise Ryner.

Admission is free and all are welcome.


Sandra Brewster is a Canadian artist and holds a Masters of Visual Studies from the University of Toronto. Her work explores themes of identity, representation and memory. Her recent solo exhibition It’s all a blur… received the Gattuso Prize at CONTACT Photography Festival (2017). Her work has been featured in recent group exhibitions at Aljira Contemporary Art Centre, New Jersey (2016); Eastern Edge Gallery, St. John’s (2016); and Allegheny Art Galleries, Meadville, Pennsylvania (2015). Brewster recently received a resident fellowship at the Instituto Sacatar, Brazil (2017). She is represented by Georgia Scherman Projects, Toronto.

Richard Fung is a Trinidad-born, Toronto-based video artist and writer. His single-channel and installation works, which include Re:Orientations (2016), Dal Puri Diaspora (2012), Jehad in Motion (2007), Sea in the Blood (2000) and My Mother’s Place (1990), have been widely screened and collected internationally. He is the co-author, with Monika Kin Gagnon, of 13: Conversations on Art and Cultural Race Politics. A Professor in the Faculty of Art at OCAD University, his honours include the 2015 Kessler Award from the City University of New York; the 2001 Toronto Arts Award for Media Art; and the 2000 Bell Canada Award.
