Ralph Rugoff has been Director of the Hayward Gallery at Southbank Centre, a renowned contemporary art gallery in London, since 2006. Rugoff was just announced in December 2017 as Artistic Director of the 58th La Biennale di Venezia in 2019. He curated the 13th La Biennale de Lyon / Art in 2015, and initiated and co-curated Baja to Vancouver: The West Coast in Contemporary Art, in 2003.
A prolific writer about art for numerous publications, Rugoff spent six years as director of Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts at the California College of the Arts (CCA), San Francisco, prior to the Hayward. Before joining the CCA, he had been an independent curator since the early 1990s.
