Toronto's high-powered 6-piece roots-rock outfit, The Old Salts have grown from the folk guitar duo of James da Mota and Devin Staple to add rich harmony and an adventurous approach to structure and sonic texture. Da Mota's whiskey-and-cigarettes baritone and Staple's sweeping, singing lead guitar are enhanced by crunchy harmonica, frenetic mandolin and a rhythm section right out of Big Pink.
On May 23rd they'll be join by Kitchener's Luke Michielsen, who's acoustic guitar work and smart lyrics are rooted in the writing style of 60s and 70s songwriters like Neil Young. At university, he minored in music and majored in English literature. Musical talent and an inquisitive mind are the ingredients of his melodic and lyrically rich songs.
