WACLAW ZIMPEL & KUBA ZIOLEK (https://instantclassic.bandcamp.com/album/zimpel-zio-ek)
Polish reed player Waclaw Zimpel and guitarist Kuba Ziolek (Stara Rzeka) team up to create a beautiful marriage of folk guitar textures silky saxophone curls and electronic manipulations. These Polish luminaries push each other into uncharted territory on their first collaboration. Driving song structures lose themselves in meandering horn lines & glitching fuzz tones that scurry like insects on the forest floor. Vocals sway & wisp over interwoven guitar & horn dances. Dynamic, meditative caressing angular passages hold a virtuosic quality while also drawing from minimalism, contemporary electronic music and age old folk tradi...tions. Don't miss this rare set by 2 of Poland's heaviest musical exports.
JOSEPH SHABASON (https://josephshabason.bandcamp.com/)
Destroyer & Diana saxophonist Joseph Shabason is a compelling composer in his own right. His music sees instruments languid whispers create sleepy flourishes as they slip in & out of the soundscape. Living somewhere between new age, ambient and low key avant jazz moods Shabason finds warmth in the shadows. Synth notes drip into smooth horn lines that seems to dissipate into mist as soon as they are released. Piano keys sing in the meandering fog. Notes hymn & haw in a world of the light touch.
NICK STORRING (https://nickstorring.bandcamp.com/)
Composer & cellist Nick Storring (Picastro) slips back into the live arena. Using the live cello as a base Storring creates collaged electro-acoutic structures that move from haunting to comical. A master of timing & assemblage notes twist & break at just the right second. Lost electronics burst into string swells. Sounding almost Partch-esque at times, come early to catch Toronto's master of the knife.
