Sridevi Kapoor, more commonly known as Sridevi, was a South Asian movie star of the most classic vintage, projecting a majestic quality that surpassed mortal limitations; to watch her films is to be reminded simultaneously of popular cinema’s limitations for women and of the extraordinary possibilities Sridevi discovered within it.
On February 24, 2018, at the age of 54, Sridevi tragically passed away, leaving a deep impact on South Asian communities around the world.
On July 14, TIFF Bell Lightbox will be hosting a special tribute to one of Indian cinema's most beloved and iconic artists with a special arrival experience, photo opportunities, food and drink, a Bollywood dance performance, and a screening of one of her most legendary films, CHANDNI (1989).
