After being evicted from their watery dwellings, Sojo and Beagle must play their very best “human” to survive in a world dominated by suits (not scales) – all the while searching for home, food, room (or reproductive!) mates, and a bit of multispecies’ love. Hiccups along the way include: a swim out of the water, a hook in the mouth, a pregnancy, and four cans of chatty salmon. A research-based, physical theatre play about salmon and humans finding home in Toronto. It loves humanity. It hates humanity. It's fishy.

ABOUT UPSTREAM DOWNTOWN
Upstream Downtown, is a research-based, clown/bouffon multimedia play exploring salmon-human relations in the Greater Toronto Area. The world is experienced through the bodies of two salmon-human hybrids, Sojo (short for sojourner) and Beagle (named after Darwin’s boat), who complicate perceived species/gender hierarchies. After being evicted from their watery dwellings, they must play “human” for their audience in order to survive in an anthropocentric and androcentric world – all the while searching for home, food, room(reproductive)mates, and acceptance. Upstream Downtown questions what we can learn about the concept of home and connection to place by looking at multispecies relations in an urban setting.
